Your why is Just as Important as How You Do it: Understanding Your Motivations

Sticking to a healthy lifestyle can be difficult, especially when faced with temptations like fast food, sugary drinks, and a sedentary lifestyle in todays fast life. That's why it's important to find a motivation that resonates with you and truly speaks to you on a personal level and one that is long term.

In my perspective short term fitness goal tend to drop as soon as goal is achieved and you have to find another goal to maintain your health. In such cases people go back to their older self or even end up worse since they lost motivation after crossing a short term finish line.

For example, if you're looking to fit into a certain dress for a special event, use that as motivation to hit the gym and eat healthier. Once the event is done, its easy to give in to the cravings. Lets say you want to be a role model for your kids, remind yourself of the positive impact you can have on their lives by setting a good example. Which one sounds like the one which feels more close to you? Which one you are more likely to follow more because what you are doing have an impact on other lives around you. Isn't it a very good reason to stay around for your kids whom you brought to this world?

Think about it, by making healthy choices, you're not only improving your own life, but also the lives of those around you. You wake up and wait for your spouse to go gym with you, what is stopping you from being an inspiration for your spouse and your kids? Imagine the feeling of being able to keep up with your kids and grandkids, or enjoying your retirement without being held back by chronic diseases. These long-term motivations can be powerful drivers for change.

Start by setting a small goal, something that is achievable and realistic, and work towards it. As you begin to see progress, it will become easier to stay motivated and make healthy choices a part of your daily routine.
